Swords To Ploughshares

StoP is a network of peace groups and peace activists throughout the island of Ireland who are deeply concerned about the developing arms industry in the Republic, supported by the Irish government, the growing and sizeable arms industry in Northern Ireland, the increasing militarisation of the EU, and the recent heightening of tensions between Russia and NATO.

Erskine Childers lll on reform of United Nations

This important paper by the late Erskine Childers III was mentioned by John Maguire in his presentation to the April 2025 meeting on The Legacy of Frank Aiken, the full video of which will be available here. It has a crucial relevance to the Irish Government’s controversial plan to undo the Triple Lock which requires UN authorisation for more than 12 troops to deploy abroad.

St Brigid at Dept of Foreign Affairs, 2025

For Féile Bríde, a group of dedicated activists involved in Swords to Ploughshares gathered outside the Department of Foreign Affairs to bring a message of peace.

Brigid was known for her compassion and tireless advocacy for the marginalised and has long been a symbol of strength, hope and resistance. She cared for the poor, nurtured the sick, championed human rights for all and stood staunchly for peace.

Today, we call upon our leaders to honour Brigid’s way and will in their policies and in the stewardship of our country and the wider world. More than ever, we need to tend to the needs of our communities and the needs of our world and nurture seeds of peace and justice for the generations to come. #savethetriplelock #protectthetriplelock #peace
